12 Questions with Tyrone Williams.

1.Where are you from? The Island of Jamaica West Indies

2.Who are your sponsors? Animal, Skavenger, Dah Shop, and Skullcandy

3.What happened with Redline? Basically they said that they couldn’t pay me anymore due to budget cuts, as well as for published photos too. There would be no way to pay my bills after that. but I didn’t find that out until I called them close to month after not receiving my check. so i felt it was only right to leave after that because they wanted me to work for free, while using my image to promote them.

Business wise with this economy? It will be two years the end of April. So far we’ve just been keeping up on paying bills at moment. People always think we have money just because we own a bicycle shop. We took every penny we earned to get it going. It’s even harder in the winter cause bicycle shops in NYC don’t get too much business because of our seasons. Cycling is very seasonl to some people, but the core riders help out. We’ll see how the new season goes. I’m happy to keep the doors open for our customers with what little we have, and be able to work. That’s a blessing itself.

5.As a kid, what did you want to be when you were grew up?

I’m not sure but I think it was a technician or engineer of some sort. All I know is that I liked using my hands and mind to figure how things work. Like when I got remote control cars or something as a kid, I’d take it apart right away then put it back together before I started using it. Ask my mom, she’ll tell ya.

6.What is your Most unforgettable riding experience?

The first time I ever did a no-footer(it was off a lil bump in the parking lot of Prospect Park where I grew up) and the first time I did n xup (it was at these jumps in the back of ToysRus that Wormz took me to, I was psyched).

7.Is prototypebmx still going on?

Its been on chill for min cause dahshop has been my main focus right now, but I might bring out a tee or two this summer if people are still into it. It’s always going on though, my life is always trying new things n so is Wormz, n that’s what a prototype is; a new design over n over again.

8.Joe Rich or Taj?

They’re both terrible ones.

9.What do you think about Staten Island?

It reminds me of growing up riding making new friends, exploring the five boroughs n learning how to ride ramps. We use to troop out to rose bank like four days out of a week sometimes. Staten Baby!

10.How do you feel about BMX these days?

The Riding is getting better, the parts are getting better but some of em suck. There is definitely a lot more people riding these days than when we started out, but its awesome. Keeps BMX going.
