Few fans deemed 2008′s “8 Diagrams” a worthy comeback for Staten Island’s legendary rap collective. Then last year, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II” — the sequel to Raekwon’s celebrated 1995 solo album — was dropped by Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment and pushed back several times for sample clearances and other issues. Finally, it appears EMI and Rae’s own Ice Water label are set to release the album Sept. 8.
He characterized “OB4CLII” as an album that would deliver the goods so many Wu fans — and the group itself — remain hungry for. With guest performances from usual suspects like Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Cappadonna, and rumors of big cameos from rappers like Nas and The Game, he might be right. Only time will tell.
