"Why did you allow the commissioner to destroy our skate park?"

Here is a video of me asking NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe a question about the Benjamin Soto skate park on August 9th, 2011 at the Museum of New York City.  More about the meeting here.

I guess he didn’t see this video.

Newark New Jersey by Shane.

large_newark-drug-house

As most people know, I’m in real estate and I love the city of Newark.

I’m actually borderline obsessed with it.  I have deep family roots here, my grandfather Pelligreno Rossi lives here, I got robbed here, I rode pretty much every spot here and I know a lot of famous rappers from here.  Newark to me is a magical place.  So on Saturday night I came to Newark with my boys Margheri and Abraham to see a rap show downtown.  We arrive there and pick up Slop, who is an OG in Newark.  He’s a real cool dude, has a lot of knowledge and wisdom.  We head more to the South and Eastwards of Newark which is where all the action happens.  This area has been depressed since the 1967 riots when all the European-immigrants fled into neighboring towns to avoid the devastation and crime.  Fast forward almost 50 years later and it still fucked up with more killings and drugs than ever.  The last couple of years have been tough for most people economically.  Money is tight for just about everyone, people are losing jobs and going into foreclosure.  Before the sub prime mortgage bubble burst in 2007, the City of Newark was seeing a small thrive in the real estate market.  People were buying homes in the slums with little or no money down. Everyone thought this was great at the time but the problem is now everyone is in foreclosure or shortsaleing their homes. Now Newark has more abandoned homes and buildings than ever before. If you ever seen slum dog millionaire the movie, its kinda like that but with crackheads. Its fucked up! I kid you not, every other home is bored up and fucked up. So we get to one block and the whole block is abandoned. It was the coolest shit ever. There were mad street lurkers so we didnt stay around too long just snapped a couple flicks and peaced. We also bought weed from some blood dude on 18th ave. $20 for some Newark backyard boogie. Fuck it, it got us high!
