Benjamin Soto's Skateparks First Rally
So Sunday we had our first ever rally for the Ben Soto Skatepark. It happened right outside of the Skatepark that once existed on Father Capadano Blvd. It was actually a really cool event. Jenny got a permit from the precinct so we could do it legally. Thank You Jenny! We showed up and the police brought our own metal barriers and stuff so they could cage us in like the animals that they think we are, and there were anywhere from 3 to 5 cop cars there throughout the whole day (really shows where your tax dollars are going towards!). But besides that, it was real cool to see what a $45 permit could get us, it was pretty legit. The turnout wasn’t as big as we were expecting, but the weather wasn’t helping much either. Either way, about 50 people showed up and we had a good time and got our point through to the community
We started the day at about 11:30. It was rainy and gross out.
Me and Ed took a walk to the gate to see that the Benjamin Soto Skatepark sign was no longer there. We were then asked to leave by the Pep cops because we “werent allowed there”
It started off slow with only a few people
More people started to show up once the weather cleared up a little
Making some signs to show his support
They got paid to do this, all day
A future skater now has no where to learn.
Joe Irlinger got taped to a tree
Carolyn from CD skateshop was familiar with a bullhorn, and Cara made shirts that made a lot of sence. This one said “we want to see and engineer’s report, not osama’s body, so lighten up and produce it”..This is the same woman who gave us “we are Ed Pollio!”, its quite evident that she has a bag full of expressions that make loads of sence
Just thinking about the endless lines that could be done on this rail, such a great set up…
Don’t give your kids Red Bull
The turnout was great, and I think we did a great job letting the community what the problem is, even without any media.
Thanks to Mike Shane for shooting some amazing photos.

Max Fish might be closing Petition to keep it open.
Max Fish was in the news again after it’s doors were shut by the NYPD last week. Allegedly the bar was serving people under 21 and didn’t abide by New York’s state law that prevents establishments from serving alcohol after 4AM. An online petition has been setup to help show your Support For Max Fish.

An afternoon with the NYPD
Ed is gonna love this one. A guy on a bike gets a ticket for riding on the sidewalk when another dude walks by and cracks a joke and experiences the NYPD at their finest. Tax dollars well spent.
If I was the dude on the bike I would have rode away as soon the pigs lost their focus.

This is how Shane writes a check to the DMV. After he finished giving Bloomberg $140.00 more of his hard earned money he went to Dunkin Donuts to see his tax dollars in action. You got to love New York
King of New York this weekend
The Group Home Bikes team will be rolling deep at King of New York this weekend (8-7-10 – 8-8-10) at Tompkins Square Park. Ed, Alex, Vinny and I were working hard last weekend building some ramps for the event so it should be a pretty sweet affair. Word on the street is that the New York Pricks and Dicks will be contributing to the event as well.

Our fearless leader Ed Pollio examining our work.
There is much shredding to be done on these.
I can hardly believe I saw this. Alex actually doing some work.
Not sure what time the event starts, but we’ll be there around 10am. Heres some info about the event from the King of New York website.
“The 2010 King of New York® will be held Saturday August 7 (Tompkins Square Park – Flatland and Street Jams) and Sunday August 8 (Cunningham Park – Dirt Jam) and is FREE to all.”
We’ll be filming the event so check back here during the week for an edit.
